Kansas Envirothon 2024

June 4, 2024

On April 24th, the Kansas Envirothon committee held its annual State Envirothon at Camp Wood YMCA in Elmdale, KS. They were joined by NCF Envirothon Program Manager Jennifer Brooks, from North Carolina and the official NCF marketing team Martinez Media & Marketing group, from Manhattan. Hosting the national leadership team was a great opportunity to showcase Kansas Envirothon and the hard work the students put in each year and will hopefully lead to increased participation and awareness across the nation.

Ten top teams from each local region proceeded to the state event where they were tested on their knowledge and skills in Wildlife, Aquatics/ecology, Soils/land use, Forestry, and the current issue “Waste to Resources”, which they also gave a ten-minute oral presentation on. Kansas has also added a Rangeland section to the state-level Envirothon as it is an important resource in the state.

After a full morning and afternoon of testing and presenting, the top three teams were: Holton High School with 3rd; Manhattan High School with 2nd, and the winner of the competition was St. John’s Catholic School.

The St. John’s team will be representing Kansas at the NCF Envirothon from July 28th- August 3rd  at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.
