Randy Smith

Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District, Minnesota

Randy Smith, of Adams, Minnesota, currently serves as the district supervisor of Mower County Soil and Water Conservation District. Randy is heavily involved in soil and water conservation at the local and state levels, having served on the state board and as the southeast Minnesota area director for four years.

Conservation is important to Randy because he wants to ensure the soil on the land is preserved and the water in rivers and lakes is clean. In his leadership roles, Randy wants to help encourage larger producers to implement cover crops, strip-till, or no-till practices into their operations. Although this is a lofty goal, Randy says starting with small and medium-scale operations can make a difference.  Randy is currently running for vice president of the Minnesota SWCD and plans to one day run for president of the Minnesota SWCD. He also wants to become more involved at the national level in the National Association of Conservation Districts.

When Randy isn't doing conservation work, he can be found spending time with his family, most notably his grandkids. When Randy isn't with his grandkids, he enjoys taking his Harley for his favorite ride over Beartooth Pass in Wyoming.
